Hello Parents and Guardians of Room 22,
I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Spring Break. Thank you so much for your understanding when I became very sick before spring break and had to postpone our conferences. I am feeling much better now and am ready to re-schedule the conferences. I am just confirming the exact schedule, but I will be able to meet with you all next week (April 16-20). Please see me after school tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday and I can get you signed up for a conference time next week. Hopefully we can find a time that works for you! Thanks again, Miss C Hello Parents and Guardians,
On the evening of Thursday, March 22 and the morning of Friday, March 23, Valley View is having Parent Teacher Conferences. If you haven't already booked a time to see me, please follow this link: school.cbe.ab.ca/school/valleyview/teaching-learning/assessment-reporting/teacher-conference/pages/default.aspx. You can also call the school office at 403-777-8250 to book your time. I look forward to seeing you all later this week! Miss C Thank you to Paul Kelba, the Sustainability Education Coordinator at Calgary Board of Education for providing us with the opportunity to experience the winter activity of snowshoeing.
Physical education is enhanced through opportunities to participate in activities such an snowshoeing, which builds on our gross motor development and our confidence. We made observations while we were on our snowshoe walks that helped us practice skills that connect us to the world around us. We had so much fun snowshoeing last week. Our grade 3 buddy class came snowshoeing with us! Our little legs were exhausted from trudging through the deep snow, but it was a fantastic experience. Hello wonderful parents and gaurdians,
We have a field trip planned for the end of February. We currently do not have enough parent volunteers to be able to go on this trip. I know a few of you have already received your police clearance, yay! If you haven't yet and would be interested in coming on a field trip with us, please visit the office and they were give you all the paper work you need. Police checks take a couple weeks to come back, so get yours done as soon as you can. If the end of February doesn't work for you, we have a few more trips planned in the spring! Thanks for your help! Miss Clachrie SPORTS CORNER
Movement Education Dear Parents: We will begin our Movement Education unit in our regularly scheduled physical education classes. This unit lasts 3 weeks. To begin this unit, we review safety procedures with each class. Students in elementary school are not expected to change for physical education. When participating in Movement Education we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask you to consider the following: • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best). • Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing. • Tucking shirts in may help to prevent an accident. • All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, etc… • Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Tying hair back with elastics (scrunchies) is recommended. • Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish. • Students continue to wear indoor running shoes (first preference). Students may also participate in bare feet or with gymnastic slippers. Please see the following for your child’s physical education class schedule. Should you have any questions, please feel free to speak to your child’s teacher. Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to assist with the safety of our students. Jan. 22 - 26 gym on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Jan. 29 - Feb 2, gym on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Feb. 5 - 9, gym on Tuesday and Wednesday Sincerely, Mr. Hawken As part of our School Development Plan, Valley View school will be reporting on math achievement four times during the school year (see Mrs. Wallace's blog for more info). Today your child brought home the first report (if they were absent, they will receive it the next day they come to school). In their blue folder, please find a piece of paper with a picture of a pattern they made and their explanation about their pattern. We have been working on identifying, reproducing, extending and creating patterns for many weeks. All kindergarten students were presented with the same problem solving question relating to patterns. One of our goals is to help our students to develop mathematical language, including words like "repeat", and to be able to use letters to label the parts of their pattern (e.g., a red-blue pattern could also be called an A-B pattern.) Ask your child if they can find any patterns in your house! Your child is welcome to wear a festive sweater, shirt or pajamas on Wednesday December 20, 2017.
We will be enjoying popcorn and a movie on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate all the learning we have accomplished and to enjoy our last day together before the winter break! Thank you to Police Officer Don for coming in to teach us about community helpers. We learned that we only call 9-1-1 when it is a real emergency. We learned that police officers wear special uniforms to help us identify them. We learned that even though police officers have a tool belt that they can use, they have far more important tools to help keep us safe.
They use their ears to listen to the problem, their brains to think about the how to solve the problem, their hearts to care for the people they are helping and their mouths to speak kind words. We are so excited to see Police Officer Don again and can't wait to explore learning about other community helpers. Our Winter Concert is just 3 days away! Our students have been practicing a lot to make sure they put on an excellent show for their families.
On Thursday, December 14th, please arrive at the school for 5:45 pm. The front door will not be open until this time. Please drop off your child in Miss Paul's room (rm. 21), and go to the gym to get your seat for the concert, which will begin at 6:00 pm. Teachers will be supervising all kindergarten children in room 21 and we will bring them to the gym when it is their turn to perform. After the concert, please pick up your child from room 21. Please note: In this concert, the students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be performing. If you have another child in Grade 3 to 5, their concert is on Wednesday, December 13th. Hope to see you on December 14th at 5:45! We can't wait to show everyone the wonderful songs we have learned. |
