Friday March 16 - Leadership/Environment Assembly, 10:15-10:45 Thursday March 22 – 4-7:30 pm Conferences (please make appointment online, with office or teacher) Friday March 23 – 8:30-11:30 am Conferences (please make appointment online, with office or teacher) Spring Break (No School) from Thursday March 22 until Monday April 9. We are back at school on Tuesday April 10. Thank you to our parent volunteers who made our field study at Inglewood possible. We were so fortunate to have such beautiful weather for our field study. We learned about coyotes, bumble bees, deer and ducks. We learned where they live, what they eat and some interesting facts about these creatures. We also made puppets and saw some animal artifacts. We went on a nature walk through the forest and along the river. We saw animal tracks, ducks and geese flying in the air as well as animal scat.
Here are some questions you can ask your child: Ask your child what animal evidence they saw. Ask your child how animals adapt for the winter. Ask your child what animal scat is. Ask your child what the difference between a zoo and a sanctuary is. Could you please let us know either by calling the office or sending me a message if your student(s) will be attending Valley View School next year.
Thank you so much Miss. Paul We have been enjoying the snow and watching the changes outside. We have taken our classroom outside and discovered that we can paint the snow the same way that we paint the paper. We are spreading kindness to the school each day this month and thought that making snow art for people to see would make them smile and inspire them to do something kind for others. Learning words such as, kind, smile, happy, friend and love are helping us expand our peer network and invite new people to play. We are hoping the weather gets nice so that we can continue exploring. Enjoy the beautiful weekend!
Hello Parents of Valley View Kindergarten,
Some of you may know that we have a field study planned for February 28th to Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. This is a great opportunity for our students to have hands-on learning experiences outdoors, learning how to be stewards of our environment. This field trip is in danger of being cancelled. This is due to the lack of parent volunteers that have their police clearance to accompany us. Kindergarten students must be in groups of no more than 5 students for every adult, which means we need a total of 10 adults, including teachers, to be with us at all times during each trip. If you are able to join us on this field trip, or any possible field trip in the future, it is important that you come in to the office to begin the process of being cleared as a volunteer. Please let you child's teacher know that you have begun this process. Thank you for your support - it takes a village! SPORTS CORNER
Movement Education Dear Parents: We will begin our Movement Education unit in our regularly scheduled physical education classes. This unit lasts 3 weeks. To begin this unit, we review safety procedures with each class. Students in elementary school are not expected to change for physical education. When participating in Movement Education we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask you to consider the following: • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best). • Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing. • Tucking shirts in may help to prevent an accident. • All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, etc… • Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Tying hair back with elastics (scrunchies) is recommended. • Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish. • Students continue to wear indoor running shoes (first preference). Students may also participate in bare feet or with gymnastic slippers. Please see the following for your child’s physical education class schedule. Should you have any questions, please feel free to speak to your child’s teacher. Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to assist with the safety of our students. Jan. 22 - 26 gym on Monday and Wednesday Jan. 29 - Feb 2, gym on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Feb. 5 - 9, gym on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday Sincerely, Mr. Hawken Thank you to Police Officer Don for coming in to teach us about community helpers. We learned that we only call 9-1-1 when it is a real emergency. We learned that police officers wear special uniforms to help us identify them. We learned that even though police officers have a tool belt that they can use, they have far more important tools to help keep us safe.
They use their ears to listen to the problem, their brains to think about the how to solve the problem, their hearts to care for the people they are helping and their mouths to speak kind words. We are so excited to see Police Officer Don again and can't wait to explore learning about other community helpers. Friday Dec 8 - No School
Thursday Dec 14 - Winter Concert 6 pm (doors open at 5:45) Friday Dec 15 - Last STEAM fun day Wednesday Dec 20 - Last day of school Dec 21 - Jan 14 - Enjoy Winter Break Monday Jan 15 - First Day Back We are working very hard in our kindergarten classroom to be kind and caring members of our classroom and school community. We are learning that we need to be respectful of our classroom and the materials in our space. We are learning that if we take home materials from the classroom, we soon wont have much to play and explore with here.
We need your help to ensure that we are being honest and keeping our learning materials at school. Recently many materials have gone missing and we are unable to find them in our classroom. We are missing a small red fox and a white artic fox from our Canadian animals center. If we are bringing things home that are not familiar to you, could you please help us and send them back in our blue folders. |
